World and Local News

This is the page I use to find out what is happening in the world around me. Occasionally it even works well enough that I have some clue. :)

First, a couple of newspapers:

• USA Today
• The Washington Post is pretty handy for me, as I'm currently living in the DC area. I'm really glad they stopped charging for the site. Still, I generally only use it to look at the TV schedule and do the Crossword Puzzles.
• Since I have friends in the area, I also check out the Boston Globe from time to time.
• And on reputation, it's rather difficult to ignore the New York Times... It does require a subscription, but no fees.
• Detroit News
• Toronto Sun sports section (and crossword puzzle).
• Chicago Tribune, Bulls Section
• Tampa Tribune
• Philadelphia Inquirer
• The Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.

and if you're looking at foreign travel, check out the exchange rates at MarketWatch.

Or how about the weather for anywhere in the country? Check out this site.

And for those of you who are unfamiliar with usenet, check out Deja News.

And for those of you in the DC area who are interested in international news, check out WNVC, local channel 56. Especially check out the Bundeslige updates around 1:30pm local time. :)

And for those of you looking to travel, particularly within the US, definitely don't miss this site: Excite City Net. It contains all the essentials, from maps to hotels to sites to see. I've used it to plan a number of day trips.
Locally to me, there's also a northern Virginia events site.

And I suppose I shouldn't be provincial about what newspapers I include in here. Here are several Hong Kong newspapers:
