MY HISTORY

So, you want to know about my past and where I came from huh? Well, you've come to the right place. This is my story. This is the way I see it, If you don't like it then you probably will not like me. We'll see...

I was born into a very loving family consisting of my mom (Lottie S. Phillips), dad (Paul E. Phillips Jr), and brother (Paul E. Phillips III). I was born in the not-so-small town of Louisville, KY. To this day, most of my relatives on my dad's side still live there. It Was March 13, 1974 (a Thursday). I was late being born. What can I say, I'm stubborn. I've been told that I made no indication of wishing to be born until the doctors told my parents that they were going to be forced to induce labor soon. Once this was discovered, I decided to finally make my grand entrance. :)

We lived on the outskirts of Louisville for about 9 months after my birth. The only thing I remember from that time was when we all huddled in one corner of the basement once because of a tornado. It's weird that that is the only thing I remember, don't you think?

We eventually moved to Durham, NC where I received most of the damage that still haunts me to this day. If I shaved my head, I would look like Darth Vador without his helmet (you remember that scene from Return of the Jedi, right?). Anyway, While in NC, I visited the hospital about once a week from what I've been told. I don't remember much of those years either. I remember regaining consciousness on the way to the hospital from the time that I got run over by a stupid bicyclist and seeing the paramedics bring her in on a stretcher (that was when I was 4). I also remember playing in the woods one day with my best friend back then, Kenny Griffin, and seeing a huge cotton mouth snake. we climbed up a tree and let it slither on by without messing with it. I also remember removing the training wheels from my bike without my parents' knowledge because I saw Paul riding a two wheeler without training wheels and thinking to myself: "If he doesn't have to have these extra wheels, why do I? Can you believe, I actually didn't fall at all that day?!?!?! Anyway, that was four years of my life. Avoiding some dangers, but not most, and being too stubborn for my own good. I have plenty of other stories I could tell but I don't feel like it over the internet, you'll just have to get to know me to learn the others.

Oh, did I forget to mention that by the time we left North Carolina my mother had gotten used to calling me: An accident waiting to happen. Well, she did, after all, I had stitches before I could walk. I was crawling around and slammed my head into the vacuum cleaner. To this day, I have the hardest head (physically and mentally) of anyone I know. Of course that could be because I jump-started evolution in order to survive my childhood. :)

In the summer of 1979, we moved to a small town: Allendale, in Bergen County, New Jersey. I lived there for seventeen years. We lived in a medium sized house in a small neighborhood. I knew just about everyone since I had a paper route from the time I was 10 in order to have money for the day when I would be old enough to purchase: a car. After all, my only goal in life back then was to become a race car driver. The address of my old house in New Jersey if you are ever in the area was:

and this is what it looked like in 1996:

I went to Hillside Elementary School in Allendale from Kindergarten until the end of the third grade. It was a fun time for me as I learned to read, write, and most fun of all: draw and made lots of friends, many of whom I am still friends with. After I was done at Hillside Elementary School I entered Brookside Elementary School in Allendale. I was at Brookside from the time I entered the fourth grade until I graduated from the eighth grade.

After I was done at Brookside, I entered a private, Catholic, college preparatory high school known as Saint Joseph's Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. It was during my time at this school that I was forced to give up my dream of becoming a race car driver for sure (I had already started drifting away from the idea) because at the ripe age of 15, I found that I have caraticonus. I decided that if I couldn't drive cars for a living, I would like to design them. I had always found great pleasure in building things from my imagination so this was a logical choice. I found that the best thing for me to become was: a Mechanical Engineer

Note the short hair, yuck!!

I decided to go to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and study Mechanical Engineering. It was while I was here at RPI that I made several more friends and I hope to be able to keep in contact with them all now that I have graduated. Also, during those college years, Paul graduated from Mooravian College...

It was also during my my college years that my parents decided to move from my home of seventeen years in New Jersey to a new home, in Georgia. Our address there (for a couple more months)in case you need to know is:

It's a really nice house as you can see but it isn't quite home so it's not so bad that my parents are moving again soon.

While at RPI, I completed a year's worth of work in the co-op program. The company I worked for was Ericsson in Lynchburg, VA. You may have heard of their cellular phones? The area of Ericsson I worked for though, designs and manufactures land-based mobile radios. Ericsson is based in Sweden which was cool since they did things a little differently (a little more methodical, nice experience).

After my last session at Ericsson, I went back to RPI and finished my degree. I graduated in May 1997

After graduation I got a job with Amphenol Aerospace as a Design Engineer. What I do there is design new electrical connectors for the high-end avionics and military and automotive industries. We make some really great products. You should check them out! :)

It was within the first year of working for Amphenol that Bobbi and I got our pets. Yes, note the plural! We have a cat and a dog. First we got our cat, Shadow. Then a couple months later we got our dog, Petey. Shadow is a couple years old and Petey is about a year or so old. So, our happy little home consists of Bobbi, myself, Shadow, Petey, and a whole lot of pet hair!!
